Sabbath

  1. Genesis 2:2 And on the seventh day God finished his work that he had done, and he rested on the seventh day from all his work that he had done.

    1. Hebrews 4:4 For somewhere He has spoken about the seventh day in this manner: "And on the seventh day God rested from all His works."

    2. Hebrews 4:8-10 For if Joshua had given them rest, God would not have spoken of another day later on. So then, there remains a Sabbath rest for the people of God, for whoever has entered God’s rest has also rested from his works as God did from his. [Many claim that the Sabbath (the seventh day) was not reestablished (not sure who made up that man-made tradition or requirement), but here in Hebrews distinctly in most honest translations the word says there remains a Sabbath rest for the people of God.

  2. Exod 16:21-26 Morning by morning they gathered it, each as much as he could eat; but when the sun grew hot, it melted. On the sixth day they gathered twice as much bread, two omers each. And when all the leaders of the congregation came and told Moses, he said to them, “This is what the Lord has commanded: ‘Tomorrow is a day of solemn rest, a holy Sabbath to the Lord; bake what you will bake and boil what you will boil, and all that is left over lay aside to be kept till the morning.’” So they laid it aside till the morning, as Moses commanded them, and [ver. 20] it did not stink, and there were no worms in it. Moses said, “Eat it today, for today is a Sabbath to the Lord; today you will not find it in the field. Six days you shall gather it, but on the seventh day, which is a Sabbath, there will be none. [This event was before the giving of the Torah to Moses and the Israelites at Mt. Sinai in Exodus Chapter 20.]

  3. Exodus 20:9-11 Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the YHVH your God, on which you must not do any work--neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your manservant or maidservant or livestock, nor the foreigner within your gates For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested on the seventh day. Therefore YHVH blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.

  4. Exodus 35:2 For six days work shall be done, but on the seventh day you are to have a holy Sabbath of complete rest to the LORD. Anyone who does work on that day must be put to death.

    1. Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

    2. Romans 8 There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. For the law of the Spirit of life has set you free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death. For God has done what the law, weakened by the flesh, could not do. By sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and for sin, he condemned sin in the flesh, in order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not according to the flesh but according to the Spirit. For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit. For to set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace. 7For the mind that is set on the flesh is hostile to God, for it does not submit to God’s law; indeed, it cannot. Those who are in the flesh cannot please God.

    3. What is sin? 1 John 4:3 Everyone who makes a practice of sinning also practices lawlessness; sin is lawlessness.

  5. Leviticus 16:31 It is a Sabbath of solemn rest for you, that you may humble your souls; it is a permanent statute. [ESV and AV say forever. How long is forever?]

  6. Leviticus 23:3 Six days shall work be done, but on the seventh day is a Sabbath of solemn rest, a holy convocation. You shall do no work. It is a Sabbath to YHVH in all your dwelling places.

  7. Nehemiah 9:14 and you made known to them your holy Sabbath and commanded them commandments and statutes and a law by Moses your servant.

  8. Isaiah 58:12-13 Blessed is the man who does this, and the son of man who holds it fast, who keeps the Sabbath, not profaning it, and keeps his hand from doing any evil.”

  9. Isaiah 66:22-23 For as the new heavens and the new earth that I make shall remain before me, says the LORD, so shall your offspring and your name remain. From new moon to new moon,
    and from
Sabbath to Sabbath, all flesh shall come to worship before me, declares the LORD. [In the world of the new heavens and new earth, people will worship YHVH from Sabbath to Sabbath.]

  10. Matthew 12 1-8 [ Mark 2 and Luke 6] At that time Jesus went through the grain fields on the Sabbath. His disciples were hungry, and they began to pluck heads of grain and to eat. But when the Pharisees saw it, they said to him, “Look, your disciples are doing what is not lawful to do on the Sabbath. He said to them, Have you not read what David did when he was hungry, and those who were with him: how he entered the house of God and ate the bread of the Presence, which it was not lawful for him to eat nor for those who were with him, but only for the priests? Or have you not read in the Law how on the Sabbath the priests in the temple profane the Sabbath and are guiltless? tell you, something greater than the temple is here. And if you had known what this means, ‘I desire mercy, and not sacrifice,’ you would not have condemned the guiltless. For the Son of Man is lord of the Sabbath.”

    1. The Messiah did not break the Sabbath nor did his disciples. There is no law against feeding oneself. They were no harvesting to sell. If the Messiah had broke the Fourth Commandment, they would have him a sinner [See 1 John 4:3 above].

    2. 1 Peter 2:22 "He committed no sin, and no deceit was found in His mouth."

    3. What Day is the Messiah the Lord? The Sabbath

    4. Mar 2:27 He said to them,“The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath.”

    5. [What day was made for man? The Sabbath]

  11. Luke 23:56 Then they returned to prepare spices and perfumes. And they rested on the Sabbath according to the commandment. [Still keeping the Commandment]

  12. Acts 13:14 but they went on from Perga and came to Antioch in Pisidia. And on the Sabbath day they went into the synagogue and sat down.

  13. Acts 13:42 So when the Jews went out of the synagogue, the Gentiles begged that these words might be preached to them the next Sabbath. [Preached not on Sunday, but on the SABBATH.]

  14. Acts 13:44 The next Sabbath almost the whole city was gathered together to hear the word of God.

  15. Colossians 2:16-17 Let no one therefore judge you in eating, or in drinking, or with respect to a feast day or a new moon or a Sabbath day, which are a shadow of the things to come; but the body is Messiah’s.

    1. [Some teach that verse 16 means don’t let anyone judge you for eating bacon, not keeping the feast days, and not keeping the Sabbath Day. Those that judge are the ones that called keepers of kosher laws, the holidays of YHVH, and his Sabbath Judaizers or legalist.]

    2. [In fact, Paul is saying don’t let any one judge you for KEEPING kosher laws, the feast, and the Sabbath. Don’t let their words stop you from obeying YHVH through the Messiah because kosher laws, feast days, and the Sabbath are a shadow of things to come. When the Messiah comes, the saints will keep the kosher laws, the feast days, and the Sabbath.] [See Isaiah 66 22-23.]

  16. Hebrews 4:9 There remains therefore a Sabbath rest for the people of God.
